IFEIA’s Winter Aviation Competition
Independent Flight Examiners’ and Instructors’ Association
In conjunction with Pooleys Flight Equipment, we are pleased to announce the new IFEIA Aviation Competition which is open to everyone and free to full IFEIA members.
The competition's aim is to encourage excellence in instructing, examining and, as a result, flight safety. Any profit from this competition will go to an aviation charity. It will be judged by the following panel:
David Learmount - Aviation Journalist
Sebastian Pooley - MD of Pooleys Flight Equipment
Crispin Orr - The Head of the Air Accident Investigation Branch
Ian Whittle - The son of Frank Whittle, the inventor of the Turbo-Jet engine
We are inviting entrants to the following four categories:
1. I learned about instructing from that.
2. I learned about examining from that
3. I learned about flying from that.
4. My favourite aviation photograph.
The first three categories invite each entrant to complete a written article. There is no restriction on the length. The fourth category invites entrants to submit their favourite aviation photograph. Please note the competition’s aim when submitting your entry. The Judges decision will be final.
All entries must be the entrant's own original work.
The articles and photographs will appear in a book to be published in the new year by Pooleys. Articles may be anonymous or authored but only authored articles will be considered for a prize.
Entries will be charged at just £10 per entry but will be free to full IFEIA members.
Each category will attract a cash prize for first of £500, £250 for second and £150 for third. There will also be a discretionary prize of a Bose or David Clark Headset (the winner’s preference) which the judges may award for an exceptional article or photograph. In addition, all prize winners will receive a Pooley’s redeemable gift voucher of £100, £50 or £20 for 1st, 2nd and 3rd in each category.
Please submit your entries to submissions@ifeia.uk.
Closing date for the competition is Friday the 28th of February 2025. Prize winners will be announced 31st March 2025. Please ensure that for each entry your £10 has been received by IFEIA. Multiple entries are permitted.
Secure payment of the £10 entry fee may be made below - complete your name and email address and proceed to the payment screen. Entering your name and email enables IFEIA to match payments to submissions.
